My S got accepted to Studio TV production which was his second choice of major. (His fisrt choice was Acting). Can someone share their experiences / thoughts on Studio TV Production major? Do you get a chance to audition for acting all?

If you mean if you get a chance to transfer into acting once you are admitted into another major. Then the answer is no they do not allow it.

Yeah, the letter was pretty clear on that (not allowed to transfer). I want to know how the Studio TV Production major at Emerson is like. I’d appreciate any inputs, both positive & negative.

oceanview1 , my daughter graduated from the program and loved it because there was a lot more hands on than other schools she was considering
I think she got a great education , but if you have expectations of your son finding employment in the field it is VERY difficult , and for that I feel misled by Emerson…also was a not happy that they strongly urged the students who participate in the LA Program to stay out there in order to find jobs…literally only a few of them have found employment at any level …one of her friends is actually on food stamps out there and struggling to find any job at all…I won’t pretend that this is an because of Emerson because she has friends from other schools who studied film and television and are in same boat

Thank you for your input lje62. Food stamps after 4 yrs of college, scary thoughts. Do graduates from other majors fare any better?

oceanview , I don’t mean to be a downer on Emerson …there are so many other people in the same boat from Emerson and her other friends from various schools. I just would be very careful about the decision and hopefully not take on a lot of debt to get a degree in any field where jobs are scarce.
I still think she will eventually get a job in her industry , but if I had to do it all again , I would not have allowed her to stay in LA with having no viable income while applying for hundreds of jobs…all of that could have been done from home and saved tons of $$
