Study Abroad?? (Also Berkeley vs WUSTL)

hey guys! so study abroad is a total must-do for me in college. consequently, i was wondering how easy or hard it is to get into a desired study abroad program in wustl. i'm thinking of majoring in bio and maybe also in music, but am i limited to the study abroad programs approved by these departments or can i apply for study abroad programs in other departments too?

and as a side note, which do you guys think is better to go to college: berkeley or wustl? i live in california so berkeley will be a LOT cheaper(15k vs 40k w/o tuition), but i feel like wustl will be a lot more fun with the people and amenities and less of a pain in the butt in the long run. and i'm pretty sure wustl has a better bio/premed program too. basically the only thing holding me back is tuition. is the extra charge worth it? and is it unlikely that i'll get scholarships/fed aid with so much competition over them cause that would be able to solve a bunch of my problems

didn't really want to create 2 threads so i'm just putting both in onehooray. anyways thanks for answering! :)

Hey! While I don’t have first hand experience with studying abroad, I know it is very popular at washu, so I assume it is fairly easy to arrange. From the website for studying abroad, I found this paragraph:

“Students applying for an academic year or semester abroad with a major and/or minor in an approved department, and that meet all prerequisites, are eligible to apply for this program. Students who do not meet these qualifications must petition for approval to participate on this program.”

So, it sounds like if you wish to participate in a program outside your majors/minors, then you can still petition for the opportunity.

To be honest, the difference in quality of education is not at all worth $25k+ dollars a year. Furthermore, I don’t know anything about Berkeley’s amenities or “fun-ness,” but I really can’t imagine that they are so bad as to justify the huge spending increase either. Personally, I would likely choose Berkeley, but I admit that’s subjective.
