Hey! Can you guys share your experience as a pre-med on a study abroad? I also would also like to minor in Computer Science and Spanish, so would I still be able to graduate on time with all of these plus a study abroad? Thanks!

Many schools now offer tons of different options for study abroad to accommodate most majors. My D is a chem e who is co-op-Ing so can’t be gone for a full semester but was able to do a six credit Maymester where she spent a month in Italy. Most of her stem friends did that type of month abroad vs a full semester.
@momofsenior1 thanks
This will probably be difficult. You only have four years (8 semesters) and you seem to want to do an awful lot.
In order to get an idea what you are up against, pick one of the colleges you are looking at and look through their requirements. Figure out how many courses you need for your desired major. Then add in the number of courses you need for each desired minor. Then figure out what you are missing to fulfill your premed requirements and add those courses in. Finally, you will probably have some gen eds that you haven’t covered such as english comp, philosophy, history, arts, etc.
Once you get that totaled, divide by seven semesters since you want to take one abroad. How many courses per semester do you have? At many colleges, 5 courses per semester is standard. Remember that as premed you need to keep your GPA as high as possible so you don’t want to overload yourself.
You also have to consider scheduling issues. You need a course for your major and another for your minor but they are both only offered at the same time. For someone with slack in their schedule you can just push one off a semester, but you aren’t going to have much slack.
I think you need to step back and think about your goal. If the goal is med school, why do you need a double minor? You can take courses in Spanish and CS without fulfilling the requirements of a minor. In my opinion, the double minor combined with study abroad just makes this too difficult.
@me29034 sorry I meant to clarify Comp Sci OR Spanish. But yeah I know that’s it’s a lot and thanks. I’m just really interested in both of those and was wondering if it’s possible to attain a minor in 1 or (not very likely but) possibly 2
Required pre-med courses are not accepted if taken abroad, except in Canadian schools.
@TomSrOfBoston thanks for the info!
