My daughter, for many reasons, would like to do a study abroad program for the first semester of her senior year of high school in the fall. One of the programs recommended to us was MEI Academy. Do any of you have experience with this (positive or negative) and can share if it had any impact on the college application process? We did email one of the schools she’s very interested in (Providence) to see how they look upon this situation. She’s a great student. Thanks for any insight.
Kids in our school did an exchange program. Sorry I don’t remember details. It was a great experience (and probably helped with admissions).
The timing might interfere with college application prep / assembly / submission.
At first glance, it seems to be a bad idea.
Travelling to a new location every week suggests that the academics might be a bit light & non-challenging.
Nevertheless, each student should evaluate European travel & study tour in light of his or her own situation.
I agree with Publisher. Staying on track with application materials and deadlines (especially if considering ED) could be challenging. D20 had a few last minute crunches following up with LORs and meeting with her GC as things were approaching the finish line. Returning home and having the school closed for break might make getting those straggling materials more complicated.
