My daughter will be studying abroad in Barcelona next month. I know I have to get her a credit card while there, and a debit card. Anyone have any suggestions on either. I guess I need a card that doesn't charge extra for international purchases. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I sent my kids abroad with the AAA Travel Money Card and that worked out well, although for long-term use, it might be a challenge, because it can only be loaded three times for its entire use. They also have another type of travel money card that has other terms and conditions, which I can't seem to remember at the moment, but it would definitely be worth investigating both of these cards as a possibility. D is also studying abroad next semester and would like to get the HSBC card, but I don't know anything about it, and I'm not keen on starting with a whole new credit/debit card. I asked in another thread if anyone knew anything about the HSBC card, but I didn't get a response.

I just had another thought - if D is going to be using a credit/debit card for spending money, then the AAA Money card would be a good possibility, because it's not linked to your own personal checking account, so therefore, it's completely separate. If she needs a card to withdraw money to pay for rent and other large living expenses, then maybe a debit card would be the way to go - or have both.
