Study Abroad in High School

I am Sophomre and was interested in going abroad for my junior year of HS. Do u guys know of any good programs and share your experiences? DO u think it's a good idea? Mainly, I just want the name of some HS Study Abroad Programs

Hey, I am in the exact same situation as you... I am just having an extremely hard time convincing my mom.
These are some i've looked at:
www.afs.org
www.asse.com
www.yfu-usa.org
www.sya.com

and there are lots of others... those are just ones off of the top of my head.

My daughter - in 11th grade - is abroad right now with YFU. My son did a summer program with AFS. So basically I've had experience with both organizations. I'm glad to answer any questions.

For a year long program, you may find Rotary to be the best option financially.

If you are thinking about doing the program for next year, you need to get information now. You will need to have your applications in early next year -- the deadline is usually around March 1. If you are trying to get a scholarship or go to a country with limited spaces, then it is best to get the application in early. You also need to work with the teachers at your school and school counselor to figure out how to accommodate the year abroad and still meet all your requirements. If you want to go to a country where you don't speak the language, then you won't be able to really get much done academically while you are gone. My daughter has arranged to get credit for her foreign language class, and worked with the Honors English teacher to develop a reading list so she could get independent study credit for English -- other than that, she doesn't expect any academic credit for her semester abroad.
