I am an entering freshman in the NROTC program and it's always been sort of my dream to study abroad... I was just curious if being in ROTC would prevent me from doing so, because of the weekly workouts and extra classes I need to take. If anyone has any info that would be great!! Thanks

I was enrolled in NROTC when I first entered college (but have since disenrolled). Generally, most colleges/ ROTC units will allow you to do a semester abroad.

There are a few cons to this however. You will probably have to double up on your military science classes at some point or another in your college career. I know at the school I went to, the normal course load was 4 classes plus your ROTC class which makes 5. doubling up in military science woulve required me to take 6 classe, 50% more than the average. Furthermore, it becomes a little more difficult if your school does programs abroad for a year. And lastly, keeping up with fitness might be hard for some when studying abroad. youre traveling alot and dont have too much time to work out, and if youre living in a dorm or with a host family, its hard to control your diet.

Luckily, there are more pros. For one, you get out of doing 5am PT for a semester. It is also very likely that your battalion staff will support your decision to go abroad. Just like your college, they are also trying to promote well rounded students. In short, if your batallion staff and college administration allow you to go abroad, you should def. go.
