Study Abroad In Scotland

According to the U of Stirling/Scotland website these are approximate costs per semester (I converted the Euro to USD on a google calculator):
housing- 1300 euros or $1900 USD
food (meal plan, can vary depending on the plan)- 700 euros or $1000 USD
Suggested expenses- books, spending, etc- 650 euros or $954 USD

Considering we are paying over $5000 per semester for room and board alone now, $3000 will be a bargain and give us leftover for plane fare, etc.

Why are you converting from euros rather than pounds?

Just as food for thought (pardon the pun!) when my son attended St. Andrews, the food plan was not nearly sufficient to his needs - not at all comparable to what he was used to at his U.S. uni...there was a kitchen in his dorm which he utilized with groceries from Tesco.

crazed:

Their website indicates -

Students who study on an Undergraduate course on average spend around £5,000-£6,000 per year

The conversion from GBP to USD makes that around $9111 to $10,934 per year in living costs.

As 'twomules' points out, Scotland still uses GBP rather than Euros.

Note - I drove all over Scotland last summer and prices for everyday things are generally pretty high compared to what we're used to. Expect many items to be double the price.

I had a feeling they were not on Euros though they quoted a low tuition cost for those in Euro counties. (Husband was not around to tell me what that little sign meant.)

Anyway, recalculated costs in UK Pounds to US dollars:
Housing- 2386 USD
Meal plan- 1284 $USD
Suggested Expenses- 1193 USD

Housing and meal plan are still lower than what we pay now. Expenses and flight will add up (plus likely travel before he comes home)

I have no idea how this compares to costs of other study abroad universities.
