study abroad in spain?

hey guys.
i was wondering if any of you guys have been to barcelona, madrid, etc. for a summer study abroad program?
im a high school student and i'm interested in going for language immersion for three weeks.
if anyone has been there, could anyone tell me how it is?
let me know which program you went to, how the program went, how the people are, you get the trend.
thanks so much.

I’m a Spanish minor currently studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain. It’s about a two hour bus ride from Madrid, and I love it. I’m taking really intensive language classes and participating in an internship (because I’m studying with a business specific program).
I really like being here because Salamanca is centered around it’s university–there’s a great nightlife, the people are friendly, and it’s a smaller town, so it’s very safe. There’s plenty to do though, and there are tons of students around, so I find that I’m meeting new people all the time.
I’d definitely consider a small town like Salamanca–it’s certainly not quiet or boring here, and you can easily get to Madrid or other parts of Spain via train or bus.
(If you’re curious about the specific program I’m on, look at colegiounamuno.es or travelandeducation.org)

Activa Languages has unique programs in Spain, including one in Malaga where you can live and study in your personalized professor’s house while also taking salsa dance lessons. There are other ones in Barcelona, Alicante, Sevilla and Granada (where you can take language + guitar lessons) and more! Activa gives you personalized advice and help if you need it. Programs can be 1 week to a full year: it’s up to you to decide!

This isn’t in Spain, but if you want a true immersion program you should check out Middlebury-Monterey’s program for high school students. I just did it this year in Spanish and I learned a ton. It’s a 4 week program of classes and activities and you are required to speak Spanish all day, every day. It’s in Vermont, which is not exactly as exciting as Spain, but I think it’s a great program and worth considering for next summer. I really want to go to Spain after being there!
