Study Abroad: Internation Cell phones

D rented a cell phone in London with the assistance of her program, since our Verizon phones wouldn’t work. She also had an international calling card that she would use to contact us from her flat phone. Then we would call her back using our home phone, which is Vonage. Most international calls on Vonage are FREE. I think we actually talked to her on the phone more in London than when she’s home in the states!

DD got a local phone in Turkey and just buys prepaid minutes. We stay in touch with SKYPE. she occasionally calls my cell phone to ask me to get on skype - which costs me regular cell phone minutes but not extra dollars. I would not buy my kid any phone stuff here - better to let them handle it in the country they are visiting.
