Study Abroad last two quarters before graduation?

Has anyone studied abroad right before graduation (e.g spring quarter) and then come right back for commencement?

If so, were there any logistical complications? For example, getting units approved, graduation cap and gown distribution problems...etc?

I'm a bit paranoid right now because I'm hearing that it might be risky or something..

there is a faq section on the ucla eap website that addresses this.
graduating on stage does not mean you get your diploma, so even if there are logistic complications it won’t stop you from graduating. i know somewhere on the ucla website they state that you don’t receive your physical diploma at graduation, you get it like 3 months after. i’ve also heard that some students even graduate in june, yet still take summer session to finish up. graduation is a “show”, not where you get your physical degree.

Yes it is risky since you are not certain before you leave about whether courses you take will transfer back to UCLA (or whether you will get them).

The people I know who went on exchange their last quarter didn’t come back for commencement. You may need to communicate online about degree audits and graduation processes while overseas which sounds very annoying.

Go speak with an academic counselor in murphy about it - they will help you figure out your units and what options you have and such. My counselor helped me through 3 different scenarios of what could happen if I did x,y,z, so it helped a lot. Also look at past program dates of the study abroad to see if you would be likely to come back in time for commencement. If you are worried about courses transferring, ask yourself if summer school at either UCLA or a CC is worth it for a quarter abroad and graduation in case they don’t transfer. You can also try to get some of the reqs out of the way this summer before next spring so that you can go abroad and not worry about anything  Good luck!
