Study abroad leading to in-state tuition?

My son is very interested in study abroad and engineering. He likes FSU’s First Year Abroad program where you study in one of three locations in pre-engineering and then get in-state tuition in Tallahassee. I read that Clemson might do something similar but I couldn’t find details about it on the website. Can anyone affirm or debunk that possibility?

Don’t see anything on iine. I’d call the study abroad office Monday and ask. Maybe it’s just a rumor…or thought for the future but not yet.

No idea about Clemson, but this program at URI might be worth a look https://web.uri.edu/engineering/academics/iep/ There’s no OOS waiver associated with it, but there are quite a few merit opportunities, depending on his record.

Unfortunately, Clemson does not offer in-state waivers; the in-state requirements are set forth by the state legislature. They used to offer an OOS merit level of $20k/year for >3.85, 35+ ACT, top 10%, but that was only for the class of '23 (was $15k for '22); it was large enough to get those stats to in-state tuition levels. The level was reduced to $12k/year for the class of '23 and '24.

You can get in-state tuition for the one semester that you are studying abroad and not any more semesters. We had them tell us this during the tour of the school. Different than FSU. Also, there were 49% out of state students enrolling in the freshman class, so the demand to go to Clemson is very high nationally. My daughter is a freshman and we are out of state.

It's great to hear you're thinking about doing a study abroad programme. There are a variety of B.Tech programmes available in other countries. Although most candidates opt to study abroad, we need to pay the expenses of travel and accommodation. They will not be covered by the college loan. Only expenses relevant to the academic chart are promoted by the bank. If you are looking for first-year abroad programmes then [international summer schools are a good option](https://globalsummersacademy.com/programs) as they can cut your expenses.
