I would like to study abroad some time in college but my parents would prefer that I do a internship or co-op instead. Does an internship/co-op really look better on your resume than a study abroad trip?

Thanks!

bump? 10 char

I want to do both while I’m in college too. I would like to study abroad in Germany atleast twice(whether it be a smester or a whole year I don’t care), AND do interns/co-ops during the summer. Thats my ideal goal. I don’t see why you can’t do both. It would take some serious planning and organizing but I see no reason why its not possible.

But to answer your question I would think an intern/co-op looks better on job applications because you get actual expericance. In studying abroad its simply more book work… just in a different language and culture.

Ideally you would intern/co-op while abroad… even I would love that. That way you satisfy both you and your parents.

For job purposes, an internship will look better. Working experience always looks good on your resume and can usually lead to a FT offer.

For sanity and happiness, studying abroad is a great experience.

Why not do both? Look into programs that offer a semester of studying abroad and then apply for an internship?

don’t focus too much on padding your resume.
