I am applying for a scholarship to study abroad in Argentina for the first semester of my senior year. The only concern I have is my credits not transferring and being unable to graduate/get into a good college. How will studying abroad affect my chances of getting into a college/graduate high school? Should I just wait to study abroad in college?

HS students travel abroad all the time – do they end up not going to college? What you need is info from your HS and perhaps the sponsoring org. Surely you’re not the first Senior from your HS to go or the first Sr to with this exchange organization. It adds some logistical challenges but it can be done.

I’m only concerned because I otherwise would be taking all AP/Honors classes. Do you know what would look better to college admissions? Plus, my guidance counselor at HS is used to handling exchange students coming into our school, but not students leaving to study elsewhere.
Thanks for the reply though.

Unless the school you are going to attend has AP classes, it is unlikely you’ll be able to start in one mid-year when you return. You might be able to, but I know at our high school you wouldn’t be able to. You should have your required classes lined up before you go for your return. In our state, you’d be able to take some required classes as virtual classes, online, in the summer before you go.

I think it would be a valuable experience. The timing might be hard if you have to apply to colleges in the fall.

Yeah I thought about just trying to complete all my required classes before I go, but I read in another forum that a lot of problems occur from that because technically I would have to graduate early.

"because technically I would have to graduate early. "

How can that be a problem? People apply with gap years – so distance btn graduation and application is no issue.
