Hey guys quick question. So for study abroad, are there no grants or anything to get the cost down (that aren't need based)?

Also, going from a quarter to a semester system, how does that work? Do we stay there for the semester or leave once the quarter is over?

I’m not great with the financial aid information, but for certain programs (especially Northwestern-based ones) there are a few grants available. You can also sometimes get departmental scholarships for internships and the like.

As for the system, most people go for a full fall quarter (equivalent to a fall semester), for both winter and spring quarter (equivalent to a spring semester), or a summer session. Since a lot of programs that are during our winter or spring quarter start well and end before or after NU quarters, it works out easier to taking off the whole two quarters. A few programs work out to be spring-summer, though.

There is also at least one Fall-Winter. (Waseda University 早稲田大学)
