Study Abroad

Has anyone had kids who studied abroad? Anyone go to Australia?

My son studied abroad in Sydney (took an HR class plus interned at a business) he feels that the experience landed his big 4 accounting internship and subsequent job offer. Plus he had the time of his life (no one should have that much fun!)

My kid went abroad three times (1 summer, 2 semesters junior year), but all in Jordan. Can answer questions about three different programs if you are interested.

My older daughter also went to Sydney for a semester. She interned at a bank while she was there. I arranged for her to stay at a dorm with the locals instead of living with the internationals. She didn’t like it at first, but ended up making a lot of friends. Now 5 years later, she still has Australian friends visiting her.

Australia is far and it is very expensive. When D1 was there, there was no all you can eat when it came to texting or internet. D1 ran up 500+ one month when she was streaming movies/music.

Daughter did 3 winter terms abroad. Ecuador, Honduras, and a term at sea on a research vessel. She is now applying to a grad school in Australia. What questions do you have regarding specific programs, logistics or locale?

I spent about 6 months out there, travelling around, pre-college, though it wasn’t on a study abroad programme

Daughter did a semester in Spain and then immediately following graduation, went to Bali as a TA. She loved both opportunities , but Bali created some challenges with staff member who led the program ( and treated it like her own spa vacation and dumped most of the responsibilities on her ) some medical issues arose with more than one of the students and she came back with some odd afflictions too

DD2 studied abroad in Japan. It was arranged through her college and generally well run - very challenging since all her classes were in Japanese (though that won’t be the same problem in Australia :).
