Study Abroad

I am currently a junior at San Diego State and I recently decided that I was going to try and go to a Spring 2015 semester in France. All of this was last minute and the short story is I would need about $4000 by the end of the month to cover the payments needed for the trip. I currently receive a Pell grant and Cal Grant which mean I should be getting about $7000-8000 in January but I need $4000 right now. Any suggestions? I've made an appointment with a financial advisor and I also went ahead and started a private student loan with discover but I doubt that that will get approved and disbursed in time. Any advice would help.

If you do get approved for the Discover loan, there likely will be a 10 day recision period before the funding is disbursed to the school. Have you borrowed the Stafford loans already for this year? If this is a matter of needing money immediately, are there any family or friends you can borrow it from and work towards paying it back?

I did already borrow my Stanford loan that was made available to me but it was used for my school expenses this semester. I am set to receive the other half in January but that won’t help. As far as family members, I do have a couple who have said they can help out with some of the cost with credit cards (as I’ll be able to pay back the 4000$ once I get my disbursement in January) but I want to try all other options before having to ask my family.

Other than the private loan option - you might be out of luck. :frowning:
