I was wondering if anyone on the board either has personally or has had someone they know (friend, child, classmate, etc) who has studied abroad for either MT, acting, or voice and would be willing to share their experiences on it. I would love to study abroad and am curious what experiences people have had and what programs are worth going abroad for, especially those outside the standard sphere of RADA, LADA, Moscow Theater Art School, etc (although thoughts on those are just as appreciated).

Colin,
In case you don't know him, my daughter's friend who is a senior in YOUR program, did the Moscow program last year and you should talk to him. E.B. are his initials.

Even if you are not a Tisch student, some of their abroad programs are available to a student like you. My D's friend in BU's BFA program did the Tisch program in Johannesberg.

My own child who is now a senior in a BFA program did not want to miss a semester to go abroad (though has traveled abroad). I have a daughter who did a semester in Italy (not through her own college) but it was not for theater and I know you are looking for theater. However, it was through Syracuse and Syracuse also has good programs abroad in theater.

FSU has the Theatre Academy London.
In the fall is a semester long Acting program. It is open to students from theatre programs at other colleges and universities by audition.

We also have a theatrical writing program in London each spring and a shorter six week technical theatre focused program that will be offered in the summer.

I would be happy to give you (or anyone) more information if you are interested.

Soozievt - yes, I know E.B. and we're good friends here. I've been talking with him about Moscow and am very much considering it, but since I won't have to start applying until next fall I want to do some research first and compare all the programs. Johannesberg sounds very cool - I'll definitely look into that. And I'm not necessarily just looking for theater/MT/voice programs, but those are the ones I most need background info on at this point.

Colin...oh good, you know E! I have known him for years and he and my D are very close. They spent many summers doing theater together and visit in NYC when he is in town and she has stayed at his house in FL many times. Tell E. you met his VT friend's mom online....ha ha. My niece is in the BFA in Acting program at your school too and is a second year. I know the acting and MT kids mix a bit. I just sent something to her today at UMich in fact. Her initials are E.C. (she knows E.B. too) and she is from Alaska. If you know her, tell her you met her aunt from VT online, lol.

Well, l would think you may want a theater related program abroad. But just in case you look beyond that, my older D did the Syracuse in Florence program but she picked it due to her field, architecture, but it also offers many areas. It was a great program and involved a lot of travel too.

If you ever want to talk to the girl who did Tisch in Johannesberg...I could likely connect you (she is a senior now in BFA Acting at BU) and in fact, is also a very good friend of E.B.'s and you could get her contact information through him too. Just mention the girl from BU from FL and from their summer program and he'll know who I mean. Name begins with J.

I'm going to study abroad in London at the London Dramatic Academy next semester. I can send you information once I get there and while I'm studying if you like! Let me know!
