study hall and three years of language - WILL IT HURT CHANCES

okay so i signed up to take spanish 4, but it could not be put into me schedule. i also take AP physics this year, but it run into the next period two days a week. The remaining three days i have a study hall. Most people in my AP physics class of 12 are taking college courses right after that, so they leave and do not take a study hall. I opted out of the program because i play fall and winter varisty sports and would not be able to make it back in time for way games.

my one elective that is not AP is an honors history elective that i am very intrested in taking. my major in college will be some type of history

my question is, how bad will the study hall look on my transcript and how bad does taking 3 years instead of four of a language look? should a drop the class i am looking forward to in order to take spanish?

ps. all other classes i am taking are AP. i am top of class and looking to aply to top tier schools.

I am not sure how bad “Study Hall” is going to look on your application but I do think you need to look into that.

Not having four years of language is not going to be much of a problem even at ivys and top lacs. When I was applying many colleges listed “suggested courses” with 3 foreign language credits, not 4. Combined with being top of your class and a good slew of APs, you should be fine.

If it couldn’t fit into your schedule, there is no reason for the college to whine about it. They are intelligent people - they know that if it couldn’t fit into your schedule then it simply couldn’t be done.

Study hall might be seen differently though, depends.
