I am a senior and just started to work on my college apps.

I am currently taking Peer Tutor-Math, in which you help Algebra I students with their assignments in class. It is 1 credit. I am afraid it will bring my weigthed GPA down, since this is the only regular class I am taking.

So I kind of want to change it to Study Hall just so I can do my homework, and my GPA would be higher.

Do colleges (non-ivies but still very good) look at your rigorous senior courses or do they think a high weighted GPA is more impressive?
What should I do?

Well, when admissions officers look at GPA, I'm pretty sure they automatically unweigh it (put it on a 4.0 scale) because a lot of schools weigh grades differently. For example, my school weighs an A in an AP class as a 5, but my friend's school weighs an A in an honors class as a 5 and an A in an AP class as a 6. Because of these inconsistencies, admissions officers usually just look at your grades on a 4.0 scale.

^ And some of ours don't get weighed at all. So we AP/honors students have to fight and scratch for that high ranking compared to easy-course kids with all A's.

Weighting is a ridiculous system. I'm glad my school doesn't do it.

If you need the time to do homework, take study hall. If you can manage your homework and tutor, go for that...since most places aren't going to consider your weighted grade anyway, the tutoring probably "looks better".

Does your school rank? Do you know how close you are to other people?

If it brings your rank down a bit it might not be a good idea since I believe that matters a lot to schools, but if you need the class to fill in x periods, I guess you have to take it.

my school only rank seniors. the counselors have not started to do the rankings yet. so i do not know how much it is going to affect my weighted GPA/rank.

i have only 1 day left to choose between study hall and peer tutor.
