So I started my senior high school year last Thursday and my schedule is as follows

English Honors
Pre-Calc Honors
Environmental science acc. (only level offered)
Health/PE
Computer graphic illustrations (Needed for school graduation req.)
Marketing/Business Law
AP Macro

I am really good and interested with stocks and stuff and a previous business teacher wants to enter me in a stock market nationwide academic game through DECA if anyone is familiar with that.

My Environmental science class seems plain boring. It is basically a filler for me since I never considered a study hall before and it's crazy. I have one decent friend in there and the rest of the kids are there getting a science class for college or graduation requirements. We did our first lab and they seriously had trouble figuring out 20 grams x 5 days a week is........ These are a lot of the kids who barely passed or failed our HS state assessment (which is a joke)

I considered dropping that class and taking a study hall being that I would be able to get morning class work done and be able to access a computer for stock market trading until February when the contest ends.

However, I don't know, will it look bad on my transcript? Is study hall otherwise torture?
thanks

Not knowing your previous coursework, nor which level of university you are planning to apply it’s difficult to comment on your senior schedule.

For selective colleges core coursework is very important. That would mean 3-4 years of lab science courses, 3-4 years of a foreign language, 3-4 years of history/social science. Perhaps you already have those through your junior year and it’s not an issue.

Sorry, I have taken Honors Bio, Chem, and Physics. Acc. Environmental science is a joke. I’m not looking for a science school, nor an ivy league, and im looking to go for business.

I assume there are no other science courses you could take - Correct?

It certainly does sound like this class is a waste of your time, however, most colleges (not just Ivys) recommend 4 years of science.

Can you name a few specific colleges you are applying to?

You are taking 4 other academic courses (I’m not counting Computer)-- if you were only 3 other academic courses then I’d recommend not dropping.

I’ve considered UPenn, being that I am taking a calc course outside of my high school and I have a good GPa with test scores.

But aside that I really think I want to go to Drexel since they have a nice co-op program and I could commute easily saving money on Room and Board after the first year or two.

I live in New Jersey and I am figuring out that this class was state mandated and renamed from Basic Earth Science to give it more appeal to the standard level kids.

And I am very lucky to have a sales internship online with Hewlett Packard so that is something I need to do (basically my job) since it will show well and taking AP bio/chem/physics is just way to much for me personally.

So you are taking Pre-Calc & Calc at the same time? That is something to highlight in your apps and request your counselor add something in his/her rec for that as well.

I vote for dropping it – You already have the sciences required for Drexel (even the business/engineering track).

I STRONGLY urge you to apply to Drexel ASAP. They have rolling admissions and most students have better odds applying early.

UPENN is a stretch for most (as I’m sure you know).
