Study methods for APs

Hey guys. I'm just curious how you guys are going about studying for each of your AP exams, especially the reading-intensive ones. I'm trying to read and take notes for each chapter in the review books, but it seems to be taking way too long.

Specifically:

1) AP U.S History- AMSCO

2) AP Psychology- Barrons

Do you guys just read the chapters? I feel that I'll just forget the things from the previous chapters as I progress. Thanks in advance for any tips!

I do the whole thing in a two-pass system out of the AP review books. This works for basically any AP.

1st time: Read every word of every chapter. Do the review questions at the end of each section. After reading through the whole book, take a practice test.

2nd time: Skim through the review sections, making sure to focus especially on words in bold. It may help to do the review questions a second time to make sure you’ve got the concepts. Take a second practice test.

After you take the first practice test, you will be able to see which sections require the most work. Then when you are going back and skimming over everything, you can pay closer attention to those specific topics.

After you’ve done this, you should be ready to go. Just keep doing a few review problems every day until the exam to make sure you still understand everything after you’ve completed this process.

read the textbook

read the reviewbook

take practice exam to find your weaknesses: http://www.apexamreview.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=8&Itemid=13

Learn to write the DBQ/FRQ

I’m going through AMSCO and making flashcards for each section, I just finished chapter 17. It’s a good way for digesting a load of information in small sections, the retention’s great. Along with that, for the major wars, I’m going over some Notes from coursenotes.

No clue on psych, taking it next year:)

read AMSCO a bunch of time too.
Well, for Psychology, if you have Barron’s, just read it a bunch of time.
