study music

What does everyone on here listen to when cramming for that midterm that is 2hours and 32 minutes away and you are operating on red bull fumes and about 35 slaps to the face just to wake up?

For me its definitely classical music. Nothing beats Chopin or Rachmaninoff for studying chemistry.

I listen to jazz, but it has to be almost inaudible.

Classical! Flowy, melodious stuff- not like Wagner. Nothing dark or crazy.

… and I normally hate John Mayer, but his song “Gravity” just always makes me feel better.

lol i dont see how you could study with ride of the valkyries playing. hahah. if im doing programming though i tend to listen to electronic music(tiesto, deadmau5, armin, etc…). Its pretty much themes with whatever class im studying for.

Hardcore, baby! Gwen Stacy, Vanna, August Burns Red, The Ghost Inside, For the Fallen Dreams, Set Your Goals, Comeback Kid, A Day to Remember…

How does that help you study, predict??? You’re a speshul breed.

And SF- your programming music is my running music :p

The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, The Morning Benders, Radiohead.

Then there’s post-rock for after the midterms: Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, 65 Days of Static, Mono, etc.

Hahahahahaha I have no idea, but that’s just how I roll.

i dont think i could concentrate listening to any type of rock really. hahaha. anyone have any weird pre-study rituals? i usually have to shower before i study. hahah

I usually have to shower AFTER I study…

jk… Um… get 3 big bottles of water ready by the bed and a big bag of cheetos… then I know what I’ve studied because the pages have orange fingerprints.

@ kernl: That is amazing! lol simply awesome.

I tend to shower in between studying…weird, right? I’ll study about 60% of what I need to do, then shower and reflect on what I’ve learned, and then I’ll go back and study the other 40% lol.

I also like to drink sparkling water…lots of sparkling water when I study.

i like to drink vodka when im programming. Otherwise id probably loose my mind.

What’s so bad about programming? I guess it could be a little tedious at lower levels.

its tedious as hell. i remember sitting in lecture when first learning about pointers and going uhhhh… hahaha

jay-z
kanye west
biggie smalls

eminem
2pac

Miley Cyrus, need I say more?

^^ yes. i believe you owe everyone on here a “coming out of the closet” speech.

I just like to listen to anything dumb before I take an exam; it takes the edge off.

@emilsinclair9

Glad to see someone else who knows the magic that is GY!BE.

@ whatasunnyday: YES! lol I was waiting for someone to chime in on the post-rock. It’s such an unknown genre. I’m fascinated by how so few people are even aware that it exists.

My favorite post-rock bands are:

GY!BE
Mogwai (saw them live…incredible)
God is an Astronaut (saw them live…great)
Explosions in the Sky
65 Days of Static

It’s amazing that someone else on here actually knows what I’m talking about.
