Study of Exceptional Talent - worth mentioning?

Because I did very well when taking the SATs in 7th grade to qualify for CTY, I became (and remain) a member of the Study of Exceptional Talent. I can't say I've really done much with the SET or that it's changed my life. Is it worthwhile to mention this on my app, as I think it is a pretty rare accomplishment, or would it seem shallow and no longer relevant?

I think that colleges are going to be far more interested in what you've done with your exceptional talent -- awards, grades, difficult coursework, etc. -- than how high your IQ is. Consequently, I don't see any reason to mention it.

I agree with Northstarmom. Although scoring high enough on the SATs in 7th grade to be included in the SET study is pretty impressive!

If you have attended the John's Hopkins CTY summer programs while in high school, those ARE worth mentioning, as colleges do look favorably upon them. If you took courses in subjects related to your potential major, you can ask CTY to send the written instructor evaluations to the colleges you're applying to, which can be useful in helping colleges to understand the level of coursework you completed.

Just curious - how high does one have to score in 7th grade to qualify for the "Study of Exceptional Talent"?

You have to get a 700 or above on at least one section.
