study permit/CAQ questions

<p>I'm applying to McGill and UBC from the US. Haven't been accepted to either yet, but I have a good shot at both so I figure I should ask this sooner rather than later.</p>

<p>All they say is to apply for a study permit and CAQ (for McGill) as soon as possible after your acceptance, but I'm wondering if there's any specific deadline, i.e. do you need the papers in order BEFORE accepting your offer of admission, or can you accept your offer of admission and put down the deposit pending actually getting the papers? Or is the point just that you have to have them in order before you arrive at the beginning of the semester?</p>

<p>No there is no deadline; obviously you’ll need the permit before you can attend the university so try to get your permit and caq in order as soon as possible. They say it takes on average 4 weeks to get, so leave plenty of leeweay. In the meantime you can accept admittance and send the deposit.</p>
