Hi,
I am an upcoming junior, and I am taking the ACT for the first time September 21st. I need a 27 for the program I want to enter in college. I've taken two tests from the Red book and have scored a 29 and a 28. I wasn't definitely hoping for better, but I'm just praying I can match those scores on the actual test and not have to take it again.
My question is: I have 8 weeks until the test. I only have three more real ACT practice tests, which I want to save for pretty close to the test. The way it works out, I have two weeks of school before the test. Do you think that taking those two weeks ACT prep free will be bad for my score? Is that where I should be cramming in the most prep? What do you think i should do to prepare over the next 8 weeks in the way that I space out my practice tests?
Thank you!

Is red book your only prep book? If it is, get a PR book and McGraw Hill has 10 practice exams. You can use them first and save the red book for later.

I have the Princeton book, and I read through it for prep. I’m not really interested in taking anything other than the three remaining real tests though because family situations and school starting will make me very pressed for time. I took all three barron’s test and found them so different from the real tests that they didn’t even really do anything for me.
Right now, I am doing fine for my taste in english and reading, but need to work on timing my math and science better.
I think I am going to take a test the week of august 18th, the week of september 1st, and then the week of the 15th which is a week before the actual test (so starting in two weeks, I’ll take a test every other week. I’m going to take the next two weeks to go over the tests i’ve already taken more in depth and hopefully get close to finishing the books i need to read for summer hw.) The weeks in between I think i will use for going over the tests and reading some more of the barron’s review. Does this sound ok?
Also, do you have any tips on isolating preperation for math and science? Are there any outstanding resources out there, especially for science? (math is usually more of a timing problem, and there are usually onle 5-8 questions i don’t immediately know how to do)
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me; you have no idea how much i appreciate it!

You are welcome. Hopefully others will give you more tips too. Your plan sounds good to me. My son is doing the same thing. But in between the red book exams, he is also doing lots of practice from other prep books simply because that’s what he wants to do. When school stars he won’t have much time to prep either. YouTube has good ACT prep videos might worth to look at. If you need more help on math concepts, Khan’s academy has excellent tutorial videos.

yeah, i’d love to hear other’s thoughts and opinions as well (hint hint =p)
My biggest thing with math is mostly timing, but there are some things I could review also; kahn academy sounds good for that =)
