Study Question...

I've started studying for the ACT [Sept. 12], and I picked up the Princeton Review: Cracking the ACT 2008 edition. I go to the library almost everyday to read the PR and study. I had a discussion with a friend of mine who is studying for the MCAT and asked him how much time he puts in studying a day, and he told me that he studies for a total of 4 hours per day. I told him that I study for around 2 hours a day with a short break in between and he told me that to adequately study, I should be doing about 4 hours per day.

So my question is, how many hours a day should I put in studying until the test? I don't mind doing 4 hours a day with a short break in the middle of my study session but would this be a sufficient way to study? It seems to me that short, consistent study sessions would be more beneficial.

If short consistent study sessions work better for you, I would stick with that. In my experience with studying for the ACT and SAT, if I spend too much time constantly studying, I get to the point where I am not getting much out of it anymore. Go with what works best for you, because you and your friend may have completely different ways to get the most out of studying. This is just my two cents.

4 hours a day is ridiculous. I think that you should have started studying a while ago… There’s like 3 weeks before the test and I honestly can’t see cramming or w\e to help very much. More hours per day won’t be that beneficial at this point either-- so, jusr conserve your resources (practice tests) when you will actually get value out of them. You should still study like what, an hour a day to hours, but don’t expect anything amazing if you just started for the first time.
