Hey everyone,

I've taken the ACT two times. The first time I received a composite scored 28 with English: 32, Math: 27, Reading: 27, and Science: 26. I took a re-take and did worse, a composite score of 27 with English: 33, Math: 24, Reading: 24, and Science: 27. I don't know if I just had a fluke of some sort, but I'd like to know if there's any way I could raise my composite score to at least a 30. I've taken several practice tests and scored anywhere from 28-32.

I am planning to take the ACT again on April 14, 2012.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Alritey Ima give you a few tips so take out your notebook and take notes. First it seems that you got english down so I wouldn’t worry so much about that. Second, reading is all about the SPEED. Try reading more books or just reading articles, like on yahoo daily. They don’t have to be educational but they help you comprehend and read faster. This faster reading speed will also help you on science. Math I can’t really help, just read from the ACT book, study up on the general math regarded on the ACT. Science is about fishing up the answers from the sections. For me, I just read the questions, and tried to quickly find the answers. You can also look at the graphs or charts and try and analyze them to get a better feel, but try not to actually read the text too much. I think you’ll get better with practice as well. Last, when you take practice tests, get someone else to correct it, go over the mistakes, try and fix them, look over the answer key and look over/understand all the problems you circled(or were unsure of)/got wrong. This way you won’t make the same mistakes multiple times in the fuuture tests ya know? Aite hope I helped mang.

Mlbsupastar123 ~ The best advice that I can give you is just to take any many practice tests as you can between now and the April 14th test. Try to take the whole test at one time and try to mimic the conditions of a real test as much as you can. Time each section the way it will be timed on the real test and also only take minimal breaks between each section. Try to mimic the breaks you will get on the real test. Then go over all the questions that you got wrong and figure out how to get the correct answer. This will hopefully help you on similar questions on future tests. I think this method will really help w/English and Math. For Reading and Science, I think just taking the practice tests will help you w/the timing, format, and pacing. I think Reading and Science are the most unpredictable of all the sections because they are so different from test to test, and I think the difficulty level from test to test can be very different, too. Try to take the practice tests from ‘The Real ACT’ book as those are official tests. Also, take the tests contained in the following links because they are real tests as well:

Also, for the practice tests that my daughter is taking, we are first “grading” her tests and marking the questions that she got wrong. Then she goes back over them and tries to figure out how to answer them on her own. In the past we would “grade” her test and mark the correct answer. I think it is helping her w/having her try to figure out what she did wrong before knowing the correct answer because it has really made her think about what she did wrong. I think sometimes when you figure out something on your own, you tend to retain it better than if someone just tells you the answer. I hope this makes sense to you. Anyway, good luck to you, and I hope you do awesome on your April 14th test!

Remember the Titans? lol. What do you mean by “this will help you of the context of the times?” what times? lol
