sorry for making two threads, but i really need some help. from january to march, i took a practice test every week and reviewed it with my teacher. i saw improvement. i couldn't do that from march to june and my score went down dramatically (2180 to 2090 .___.)

so you 2300ers, how did you do it? especially those that have improved from around 2100. what should i do this summer to prepare for the october SATs?!

I think practice tests are the way to go. I went from a 176 (or such) sophomore PSAT to a 2280 SAT as a junior, and this is all I did.

Good through Direct Hits Vol I (with only 200 words this isn’t that bad)

Read “How to attack the critical reading section effectively” http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

Take 4 or 5 practice tests from CB’s blue book

@Spratleyj, what is #2? Is it a book or a link?

@spratleyj, thank you! i’ll def be trying those out. question, did you study consistently from the sophomore PSAT 'till when you were a junior? like, everyday? and do you know anything about a person doing worse on his/her second try and this affecting admission into a top tier university? like, will colleges care that i did worse?

Thanks for that second link, will come in handy.

I really didn’t study much… I just read the link (20 mins - 1 day), went through Direct Hits (15 mins - 30 days), and took and reviewed CB practice tests (5 hours - 5 days). Most schools will use superscore, so it really doesn’t matter on which attempt you get the score you want (as long as you don’t take it like 5 times - and there is always score choice). NOTE: if you don’t know what these are check out the sticky at the top of this page.

I jumped from 2170 (1st take March) to 2310 (2nd take June). Honestly, I didn’t really do any prep at all between March and June, because of SAT IIs and APs. I was just glad that I got to “feel” the test, and changed my approach on test taking based from my mistakes.

If you can score above a 2100, you know what you need to know. I guess if you really want to nail the SAT, practice tests would be the key.

@thrill3rnit3, wow, same situation as me, virtually same march sat score, but you did SOOOOO much better .___. dang haha, yeah, i guess i gotta go back to practice tests this summer.

don’t mind me asking and you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, but what sat II’s did you take and how did you do on them? did you study a lot for those?

I took Math IIc and US History. I got 800 for Math and 760 for USH. For Math I did practice test from Barron’s, and USH I was studying for the AP test so I didn’t need to do extra prep.
