Wow. That's insane.

i guess i have a good short term memory so i study like 30 minutes before tests but as soon as it's over, i like completely forget it...until finals roll around =(

There is no way I would write that paper when I have the option of self studying the AP

^^completely agree^^

This may sound like a really dumb study tip... but it actually has made a big difference for me!

In class, take notes without any regard to appearance. Handwriting, etc is unimportant. Concentrate on listening and understanding but getting enough done on paper for later. Then, at home, re-write the notes carefully, making sure you understand everything, supplementing from textbooks if necessary. And now, the really imporant thing: USE COLORED PENS. Have titles in red, text in blue, key words in green, etc. Really makes it easier to review later, and by having to think about what color you need, you think about what you're writing more.

I do a method called the peppermint method which is where when your teacher does review in class I start eating a peppermint and then when I go home to study I eat a peppermint then too, then in class, test time I eat a peppermint because it helps me to remember. I don't know if anyone else does this, maybe I'm just weird.

Tips?
-DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. If you can manage to resist this temptation, you're basically set for high school, college, and LIFE in general.
-I find that flashcards are a pain in the ass to buy, assemble, write on, and etc. I usually make lists for vocab. Of course, if flashcards are pre-cut and pre-written (like we had in AP Bio. probably one of the few nice things my teacher did), then by all means use them.
-Utilize your weekends. They are very useful.

OK, Now how does everyone manage to beat Procrastination?

Basically don't procrastinate. That is the best thing. I mean... that is the only study tip you really need to know.

It really helps to have a plan. Like say "I am going to review this 30 minutes today at 5, then tomorrow, I'll make notecards and carry it around all day. Then Saturday, I'll do the word problems for 2 hours"

And in high school, I made plans, but never followed them. But college is a totally different world. Like... now if I make a plan, I actually follow it because it is ABSOLUTE chaos if I don't do it.

In HS you only see the chaos when you go to take the test.

In college, you feel the chaos every single time you take a step, open your note book, hear somebody say "Come with us to the gamma kappa kappa mu mu party!"

Its like... you cannot escape planning if you're taking not-BS classes. Even if you are taking BS classes, if you are involved with clubs, jobs, going out, doing whatever, you have to have a plan or every single day will be a struggle.

Okay, and my last tip would be... I don't know. There are so many things. I'm taking a course on this stuff and there are so many things you can do. I'll tell you later.

i remember in 7th grade i had a final that i was not at all prepared for the next day and so i was freaking out and studying like mad. my dad told me to sniff an orange when i was studying, and bring an orange into school the next day and put it on my desk when i was taking the final, and the smell would make me remember. of course, i wasn't about to carry an orange through 7 periods and put it on my desk during a final. it's just one of those things ya just don't do in school. i ended up doing great on the final (my night-before freakouts happen commonly, even if i'm more prepared than i think). this post reminded me of that incident though.

i guess i could give the peppermints a try, but it probably won't work out because every time somebody in my school takes something edible out of their bag, there is immediately a huge swarm of ppl saying, "i'm so hungry! can i have one!?!? pleaseeeee!?!? i'll bring you a piece of gum tomorrow if you let me have one!!!!" i once brought a bag of cough drops to school because i was severely ill with a horrible cough, and all my cough drops were gone before lunch. obviously my schoolmates care more about their taste buds than a sick girl...

but as far as my studying methods go, i always make sure there is something to look forward to, like a reward, when i am finished a certain amount of work. for example, if i finish my math and science, i would go have some milk and cookies. if i finish my history, i would go take a bubble bath. and the biggest reward: when i finish all my chores and hw, i go to sleep! i am often so tempted by the reward that i get my work done without complaining to myself.

also, to remember random things in classes like history, i make up equally random things to go with it. for example, if i need to remember that the battle of saratoga was in 1777, i'd put a picture in my head of saratoga spring water and the water bottle would have 3 noses sticking out (7's look kinda like upsidedown noses. 3 noses would mean three 7's. the 1 stands for the bottle of water, so an upside down saratoga springs bottle of water would look like 1777). it is just so crazy that i can't forget it.

i dunno, writing it down makes me start to think i'm goin a little * loco *...

sleep a lott!!! and like everyone was saying, study however people do, but instead of staying up late to study, go to sleep at like 5 pm, and wake up at like 3 pm and study until school... that way ur getting a 10 hours of sleep and studying a decent 3 hours or so??
