Im just wondering --- let's say you'd like to be as proficient and fluent in a language as possible. Does that mean that you should (for optimal results) begin studying the language from your freshman year? What if you get a 5 on a language AP; how does that factor in? I know you can be exempted from taking a language in that case, but ... Anybody have experiences w/ this? Much thanks.

Yes, continue studying the language no matter what. If you get a 5 on a language AP, you know that you have a certain level of proficiency in that language. How you retain without practice for an extended period of time is a different question. If you don't use it, you'll lose it!

You should also consider studying abroad. Nothing helps with fluency more than living among native speakers.

thanks guys, im still wondering whether I should continue Spanish after receiving a 5 on the AP... It might be wise to forego studying Spanish (since im exempted anyhow) and make room for more subjects, no?
