Studying Abroad in Australia for Pre Med Student

Hello All,
I am a Pre-Med student at the University of Iowa. I am currently finishing up my freshman year and I am very interested in studying abroad in Australia. Iowa offers an exchange program with the University of Newcastle. This "exchange program" means that I can go to Newcastle while paying the price of my tuition at Iowa, where I am an IN STATE resident. I was just wondering that when applying to medical schools if it really matters where you study abroad.
I also looked into the University of Sydney, which is a top 50 school worldwide, but it is also much more expensive. (The exchange tuition would be around 4,000 compared to around 15,000 for Sydney). Should I choose the school with a much more reasonable price or the school with higher prestige. Also, would I be able to take any science classes (something basic like physics 1) in Australia. I've read that they generally do notwant you to, but I was thinking that since it is English speaking that it may be different here.

ANY help or anything in general about these schools would be great!
THANKS!

I studied abroad at a fairly crummy institution in Australia, but I had a great time and I’m glad I went. It did not come up in a single interview, although I talked about it in some of my supplementary essays (enhancing my world view) etc. If this is what you want to do, go for it. It won’t help you like other study abroad programs might (for example, my school did a study abroad working at the NIH), but it won’t hinder you (unless of course, you don’t study and come home with poor grades). The only thing I would check though, is the grading system at Newcastle and Sydney, and how those grades would be transfered backto your home university. The bell curve is much lower in Oz, for example, my final grades were 82%, 85%, and 89%: these were high distinctions (their version of an A/A+) and my university transferred them back as such (A, A+, A+) but if you only got the percent grade, you could get screwed over.
