Hey guys ,

I will keep this as short as possible. I am currently a freshmen and planning on studying abroad second semester of sophomore year (spring 2011). Though, i do plan on transferring out of my current school- how would studying abroad affect my status as a transfer? (I plan on transferring to either FSU,JMU or Vtech (Fall 2011 - beg of my Junior Yr).

Will the credits i have earned abroad be transferable and would i have to contact the school that i plan on studying abroad for final transcripts?

Anything else i should know?

Should i hold off studying abroad AFTER i have transferred or do it through a third party program over the summer (though, i would rather spend a semester abroad)?

Transferable units, particularly for abroad programs, vary by school, so I’d advise you contact each college. If you delay studying abroad until after transferring, check to see if the school has a 2 year resident on campus policy. If they do, then you will have to do a summer rather than a semester program.

i just study abroad (sophomore year in the fall) and im going to transfer in the fall for my junior year and all my classes transferred over and even counted for scholars/tag but that was just for my school. Find out how your classes will transfer and see if you can see transfer to another school with those classes you take outside of the US

but I say the best bet is to study abroad now, as you don’t want to do it when 1) you are a junior or higher, in general and 2) at a brand new school and will only be there for 2 years
