studying abroad

do a lot of people study abroad fall semester of their senior year? i know i should enjoy my last year in college, but at the same time, studying abroad is an amazing opportunity. do any of you have any input on this?

Yes they do, and from observations, more and more people are studying abroad. Most people go during senior year, although you qualify as a junior. You’re not limited to a semester though (Year programs).

Fall is the most popular time because it requires only missing one quarter at UCLA, whereas going abroad during Spring semester requires missing Winter and Spring quarters at UCLA.

My only academic advice is have good course planning before you pursue/go abroad. The goal probably isn’t to take all your major required courses, and sometimes some courses won’t be transferred back at UCLA.

I would say yes, especially within the Social Sciences. I agree with everything BH said.

To add, don’t forget about Travel Study options. They’re essentially Study Abroad but over the summer and usually only last about a month. They’re more concentrated on a particular area of study. I, personally, am attending the Urban Planning travel study session in Geneva this August. It’s only 26 days (granted most days are 9-8, if not 9-6), but I’m knocking out 3 upper division requirements. Plus, you get the travle study experience of a foreign country. We’re going to the UN, weekend trips to France, I think we’re discussing the possibility of going up into the Alps. I’ve been out of the loop because I’ve been sick. My only word of caution is look into each program separately since their versions of Summer-Fall-Spring are different from ours and different from one another. So be aware of dates and whether or not you’re missing school. I know some teachers will excuse two weeks of absence, others won’t.

Point being you can look into these options as well: [Travel Study](http://www.ieo.ucla.edu/travelstudy/)

^wow you can knock out 3 UD reqs in a month?

Yup. It transfers as Urban Planning Cm160, 166, and 190  I’m also hoping I can apply all three to my Public Affairs minor

anybody gone to india? thats where i want to go!!!
