Studying as international student at ASU

Hi guys, I’m an Italian 26yo student who is considering taking the ESL english 8-weeks program at ASU on the next fall session 2014. I’m still deciding if Tempe and AZ in general would be the right choice since this would be also be my first time in the US. Anyway I’m mainly looking for the “college experience” kind of trip, so I’ve been narrowing my choices considering only college towns, preferbly with major cities in close distance like Phoenix is. Weather is another important factor, I really am an extremely outgoing person who loves the sun, sunbathing etc. and Arizona weather in September and October is gonna be awesome for me I think. finally I really am looking to have fun and Tempe’s nightlife looks really good, also ASU’s party scenery seems wild.

I was wondering, how are foreign students seen and is it easy to make friends and be invited to house parties etc. for them (in the college related environment I mean not in bars or clubs not connected to asu) ?

Is the surrounding area interesting enough from a tourist point of view?

Other ct I’ve been considering are UC Santa Barbara, Florida state U, UGA in Athens and UT at Austin which is in the middle between a college town and a MC I guess.

Thank you very much for your help.
