Studying EECS at Berkeley...becoming a doctor?

crumja: May I ask what youre GPA is for med school so far? Also, how many hours do you study per day on avg.

In addition, can you list your freshman year schedule.

Thanks very much

Sorry, I don't usually post GPA on public forums like this. It's high enough for magna cum laude, for what that's worth.

I think that since we're here to be students, we should dedicate ourselves to being full-time students. I'm usually at school from 8am-10pm. Some of that time is for eating and doing homework. I try to attend all the TAs' discussion sections for my courses to get maximum exposure to the material, so that takes quite some time. Most of my "studying" and reviewing notes are on weekends.

Fr yr sched:

Fall

Anthro 2AC (breadth)
EECS 20
CS 61A
UGBA 10 (breadth)

Spring

Stat 134
CS 61C
EE 40
EE 120
Math 110

How do you rate your life outside of classes and studying? You're taking on a huge load of courses.

Yeah what you're doing is definitely not for the average Berkeley student.

I don't know. Most of my friends in both EECS and MCB are at least as focused as I am on studies. There's also a bunch of us from the same area (south bay), went to the same school district, take pretty much the same classes every semester, and form study groups. Classes aren't so hard if you prep for them in advance.

Life outside is pretty good. I'm part of clubs, hang out with friends, do research projects, teach classes, work out, etc. The only thing that I've really given up in college is computer gaming, which was a huge distraction anyways.

In the end, it all depends on your career goals. Students on the track of professional schools or grad schools spend more time on their studies, on average. There are many who just want to graduate as quickly as possible and get a job.

I"ve given up on video games as well!

Personal observations: video games are the greatest distraction for men; friends and partying are for women.

crumja - I'm assuming you took the Calculus BC exam (you started out with EECS 20)? Did you take Math 53 or Physics 7B? If so, when?

When I was in HS, I took most of my breadth, math, and physics requirements at a nearby CC. One of the benefits of Berkeley is that you can transfer your AP and CC credits. I started out with 110 units transferred and senior standing. It really helps with course selection times.
