<p>Can anyone give me a brief description of what an English class at Duke is like? (i.e. is it discussion-based, more lecture-based, general atmosphere etc.)
Any thoughts would help!</p>
<p>Completely depends on the given class (read: class-size). If you’re in a Focus group English class, it’ll be like 15 people and you’ll spend the entire time discussing the material with each other. If the class is like 75-100 people, obviously discussion would be more limited. For the most part, though, English classes will be much smaller than, say, bio or chem classes. That’s just how the department is structured.</p>
