Hi, i was just wondering how is the 'studying atmosphere' at NYU (CAS specifically)...i'm planning on going premed so i can't afford tooo many distractions...(yea right...right in the middle of NYC lol)...anyone? thanks

The studying environment is great, you just have to stay away from the party people, who tend to be in Tisch (although every school has its party crowd). Just book yourself into Bobst (specifically Lower Level II) and you'll be good.

i mean i can tolerate sum distractions...but i'd just like quiet study environments in general...r the dorms nice for that? and hey, a lil partying is okay too haha

There are study rooms in some of the dorms. If you want silence, the library's the best bet.

You'll find plenty of study environments. There are the study lounges in some dorms, empty rooms in Kimmel, the Learning Center (you can get tutoring here too), and of course the lower levels of Bobst are open 24/7. As a pre-med you'll find the first year very manageable.

the dorm as a study environment completely depends on your peers.
for example, my floor was dead silent because people either studying or out partying. however, the fourth floor was constantly in trouble and loud and the study environment sucked. people who lived on the 4th floor and wanted to study came down to our floor and sat in the hallways because it was quiet.

I'm very easily distracted so I could never study in my room. It didn't help that I lived at uhall---so there were 3 suitemates to make distractions, and it was very very far away from bobst (especially by yourself at night, which is when I tend to study). the study lounge helps some of the time, but usually there's people goofing off or talking really loudly. I ended up studying late at night when everyone else was asleep, which only worked for me because I'm a night person. also, be careful who you befriend. if your friends spend most nights going out and/or drinking, then it's easily to get sucked into it too.
