Studying in Hong Kong?

I just finished my junior year of high school and with college application deadlines looming in the near future, I am trying to decide where to apply. I want to major in computer science and minor in business. The idea of studying overseas is extremely exciting to me. I absolutely love traveling, trying new things and adapting to new settings.

According to US News & World Report, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is ranked #9 in the world for Computer Science Universities. Upon learning that HKUST teaches in English, I became enthralled with the prospect of attending.

I would like to know if anyone (especially women) from the US, Canada, Britain, etc. is going/has gone to HKUST and what their experience is/was like? As a girl, would there be any social stigmas? What would the student lifestyle be like? More importantly, what would the opportunities for internships and then job prospects after graduation be like?

As a dyslexic student, I have concern regarding the help that would be available. Does the school have any adaptive services/academic support?

I realize that I may have a romanticized idea about what I imagine the experience to be like and would greatly appreciate any and all insight.

Thank you in advance!

I don’t know about the University but my D just moved back to the States after working in HK for a year. She absolutely loved her time there and would eventually like to move back. HK is quite westernized and she didn’t have any issues as far as social stigmas. She traveled extensively by herself and felt very safe.

Will your family be able to fully fund the cost of an international education?
