Ok, so I am an Indian student who is completing Highschool from Ukraine. I am in no ways a ukranian citizen and am only here for 3 years in which i will graduate. Does this fact help in my college admissions. This is because i have heard a lot of american teachers at my school saying that Ukranian citizens and others who witnesed the Euro maidan revolution and the ongoing conflict have a big opportunity to make it to good colleges . Is this true?Does it add at all to my resume , especially if i write an essay based on this when i apply 2 years later?a
Not every student will be able to adequately capitalize on this experience.
could you tell me how i could capitalize on this experience. i know for a fact that our school organises refugee help and organises fund raisers and such for those displaced by war. I plan on doing that next year. Apart from that what can i do?
Volunteer in that organization and write a compelling essay about it. Apart from that you have to have outstanding grades (among the top in your school), very, very high SATs, excellent recommendations – and a lot of luck. As an Indian, you’re likely to be competing against other Indians living overseas… and that, as you know, is not a small number.
BTW, being able to pay for your studies (in other words, NOT applying for financial aid) increases your odds at many schools.
Unluckily @katliamom I can’t afford it.
Well, then understand that it’s an uphill battle. You have to have a backup plan that you CAN afford, whether that means the Ukraine, Europe or India. When trying for US schools, be smart in your applications. Include less-famous schools in the south, center and west (but not west coast) parts of the US where there is less competition from international students. Plenty of info on this site. Start reading! (And good luck.)
Thank you, i do have a back up plan and it involves prestigious indian unis so situation is under control.
