Do anybody study on the weekend in college? Is this more common for engineering majors?

It's common for anyone in a rigorous program.

you dont have to study on the weekends if you do all your studying on the weekdays :)

the only day my floor is quiet is sunday because everyone is finishing all their hw.

tired_student: Especially last year, there were often not enough hours in the day for me to do all my studying on week days. In addition, many of my teachers give take-home exams over weekends.

And agreed about Sundays being the day for homework. Cruel that Family Guy airs on Sunday nights.

Word.

I usually do a lot of work during the day on Saturday and Sunday to keep ahead and get major projects done first. But then I don't do anything during weekend nights. Who wants to do homework on a Friday or Saturday night? I don't think I could.

Everyone here seems to have homework every night. For a few hours a day, it seems like everyone is doing homework on friday and saturday, of course, not all at the same time. Sunday is when most people do the bulk of weekend homework, though. For me, homework is an ongoing process. I dont think i could ever be "finished" with homework and studying, but rather "up to par."

Most people save the weekend homework for Sunday, and make Sunday a full day of work.

i can tell you my weekly schedule from my last semester of college

monday - work 2-5, class 630-915, club meeting 930-1030
tuesday class 8-915, 11-1215, work 2-4
wednesday work 1-4, meeting 5-615, meeting 630-9, club meeting 930-10
thursday class 8-915, 11-1215, meeting 3-6, class 630-915
friday work 12-3
saturday
sunday meeting 1-?

all of the meetings were for group projects in classes.. and we'd meet every week.. every once and awhile we wouldn't meet on that day, but basically i had group project meetings every day.. i had two 100+ page group projects and multiple group presentations this past semester. and then studying time was during the mornings and on weekends and i'd normally do things with friends after my meetings were done around 930 or so pm.

Sunday has always been the worst day of the week since middle school. It's a nonstop work day and happens to be the same day that all the good movies come on TV. And Family Guy. And tonight was the Emmy's.

fendergirl,
Your schedule was sweet! Do you mind if I ask how many classes were in the above schedule? It looks like you had two daytime classes (meet 2.5 hours/week?) and two evening classes (2.5 hours each plus breaks?). It's great that you had so much time for club meetings and work. But somehow, my freshman son has 5 classes and a seminar that meet for a total of 22 hours per week. He works on 8 hours on Saturdays, as weekends are about the only time he has alot of unscheduled time. He also plays in an ensemble for several hours on one evening per week. I hope he's not doing too much

PS - Are you a graduate student with alot of projects?

I study on the weekends or I'd fail out

We have a ton of projects, and weekends are sometimes the only times when you can get everyone free at the same time.

Near the end of the semester, when everyone is working on 4 different projects in 4 different groups, even that sometimes isn't possible.

I study on the weekends. Most is just doing my engineering hw.

I study on weekends, mostly because I work a lot on Mondays and really have to get my work for Tuesday done over the weekend. I do almost nothing on Fridays though.

lkf725,

yeah that was four classes. tuesday and thursday 8 am and 11 am, for 1hr 15 minutes each, plus two evening classes for 2.5 hours each. the only club meetings I had were monday nights (Habitat for humanity) and wednesday night (college democrats). the other meetings were group meetings for projects that we had throughout the semester.

and no i'm not a grad student, that was spring semester of my senior year of my undergrad. :X

It felt like i was ALWAYS in meetings, haha. the one course was where we had to plan out to start our own business, so we had to do pretty much eveyrhing for the business except actually create it. our paper ended up completely filling a 2 inch binder when we were all done with it... and we got one of the only a's in our class, so I was very proud with that. in one of the other courses we had been given a case study of something that was wrong with the inventory system of a company and we basically had to first analyze what was wrong and do a big thing on that, and then we actually had to plan out a new way for the system to be done.. with like working prototypes and everything. that one pretty much filled the 2 inch binder too. it was just one big semester full of group meetings for those two projects.. so other time like before classes or between classes was spent studying or doing other work for those two classes or work for my other two classes, which was also a lot.. but that's to be expected during your senior year.

^^^Not to mention that FenderGirl doesn't need sleep like us mere mortals. ;)

Wow fendergirl, that does sound like a ton of work, and group work always seems to take longer than the sum of the individual parts.

/me nods.

(+chars)

yeah group work does take longer. we had a project during junior year where each group was assigned to a company, and you did all these tours and basically wrote this big paper describing the company, how it operates, how its funded, etc, then we analyzed things about the company and did a presentation to our class(about 45 minutes), and then we did a presentation to the company(at the company, to the higher ups of the company).. some of the groups were actually presenting in front of the ceo's and stuff of their companies. and all of the presentations we did during junior/senior year were all formal where you wear suits and everything.. all very professional
