Studying while fasting?

I think I procrastinate a lot as well, like I'll think I should just wait till I break my fast or I'll be like oh I should just wait till I can drink a red bull etc

I am missing the caffiene the most! Its so hard to stay attentive in school!

Anyone else missing being able to drink that cup of joe in the morning?

isn't fasting optional if your a muslim teen(no experiance...Just wondering)?
Couldn't you decide that it interfers with your school work too much and not do it?

It's all about your personal decision on whether you "can" fast or not (you are supposed to start fasting every year right after puberty starts). Personally, I think of all the starving children in the world, and I decide that not eating or drinking for 14 hours isn't bad at all

At school, we did a 30 hour food famine to raise money for poverty-stricken children. We could only drank water... Cool at first but then I fainted...

I know it sounds rude...but what's the point of fasting?

No its a very good question, frenchvanilla. Its also a very common question that even I, one who fasts, asks.

I'm not the most religious person so this is a very unqualified answer but fasting is a way to strengthen one's conviction towards God. Fasting is a kind of act that signifies and proves of one's devotion towards God. It is not a test, per se, but it is a way to keep one more pious and think about God. Its also a way to unify all muslim people and have strengthen community ties. Christians and Jewish people also have a sort of fasting ritual, which are done for the same reasons.

Wiki says: By fasting, whether during Ramadan or other times a Muslim draws closer to his Lord by abandoning the things he/she enjoys, such as food and drink. This makes the sincerity of his/her faith and his/her devotion to God (Arabic:Allah) all the more evident. The believer knows that God will love him/her when he/she is ready to abandon worldly comforts for God's sake.

^ that about sums it up.
It's Basically a way to say: See how you were able to give up something you are allowed to do (eating and drinking); then what's to stop you form doing stuff you aren't.

i don't see the problem in study while your fasting. It's quite easy to stay focused while being hunger. I mean I'm a wrestler and thats what i do all season long.

I'M SO HUNGRY.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only Jew who has to figure out how to balance homework wtih fasting.

The answer is to not try to understand Hamlet till after I get to eat again.

Hswrestling07, right, right, so good 275ers don't have to be hungry all times :))

Yom Kippur is the worst holiday ever.

Just thought I'd say that. I was in synagogue all day. I didn't get to study. Even if I wanted to, I was way too tired.

gab....

We have to fast 30 days!

Those Christians have it made with their Christmas ;)

Fasting is also a way to teach self-control, being able to restrain from things that we desire by our own will. Also, for those of you non-muslims, non-jews, and non-any other religion that may fast, its actually cleansing for the body to just like go half a day without fasting.. we're always putting junk into our bodies, like chocolate and chips and all that (at least I am) and fasting for a while just gives our bodies a time to rest and get that out of our systems.. (and if your going to fast for a day, it might be smart to eat a lot more the night before, or wake up early and eat breakfast...)

oh and as areply to the person who made this post, i find that i have an easier time studying while im fasting, because i dont have food to distract me, i actually get a lot done surprisingly... that way, after i eat i can just chill or do last minute stuff.. and especcially because sunset is pretty late nowadays, you have much time to finish stuff unless you stay up if you wait till after you eat..

hunger isn't that big a deal. It's actually thirst that is the problem. I have troub;e concentration if I didn't have anything to drink. I always end fasting with a hugejug of water (it also helps bec. it takes up space and prevents me from eating a truck load of food).

I agree with Stuck. I can keep my mind off food (Suprise!) longer than water.

So what do y'all eat when you break your fast?

OH yeah, Sydney are you in Ann Arbor?

food for me is WAY more important than water :)

uhh..i usually crave sweet things when i'm fasting...so i break my fast with chocolate. then pig out on random food. then dinner :). talk about weight fluctuation.

Yep, Ann Arbor. Actually, I live in Dexter, but it close enough to (and I spend enough time in) ann arbor, so I'm just like... uh, yeah I'm from Ann Arbor.

Mmm yeah, I'll always like stuff my face with whatever's for iftar, then go and eat all this sugary junk... then I feel sick and tell myself that tomorrow I'll eat more healthily...

My main problem with fasting and studying is that by the end of the day I'm just really really tired and have a huge headache and am sleep deprived and can't bear the thought of opening a book.

Now that I think of it, water actually is more important to me than food... I don't generally drink a lot of water, but I think the reason I have such an awful headache right now is because I'm dehydrated... this thread has inspired me to go get a glass of water...

Wow, this is kind of a long post...

hm...what do I eat?
-I start off of course, with a huge cup of water.
-Then salad to get my gastric juices flowing.
-Rice or Spagetti are always in the main course with something like beef or chicken or rabbit or meat balls (i.e any kind of meat)
-The rest of the food, including desert, is traditional (<--location) food.

dude i used to live in ann arbor! how cool.

haha stuck i eat spaghetti or rice too! must love them carbs! i skip the salad but do everythign else.......and chicken meatballs....

...rabbit?!
