Stupid Question? CSS Profile

I'm a transfer student filling out the CSS Profile for a couple schools and they request info on it from the 2006 tax return. The "suggested deadline" is April 1st, so I'm trying to send it in before then, but we only have our 2005 returns complete. Should I just answer the profile using 05 info, as I am now, and then update it when 06 info is available, or am I supposed to wait until after the deadline. My parents are typically last-minute people and probably won't have the stuff done till after April 1st.

bump.........

It's one of the givens that if you have a student applying for financial aid that you get your taxes done as early as possible. I'm sorry your parents don't get that. Do they not understand it could cost them money (loss of financial aid) by procrastinating?

As to your question, if you can estimate 06 information, then do so. If you can only provide 05 information, then that's what you'll have to do. But remember that you cannot correct the Profile online. You will need to print it out and make the corrections manually to send directly to the school. If the information changes, it could result in a change in financial aid offered.

I am a last minute person too but the last few years with the kids in college I did it as soon as I got the w-2s. I would advise your parents to get the taxes done asap and get the profile in before the deadline if you really need finaid.
The aid generally goes out til it is gone and the incoming freshman are going to get first crack at it so as a transfer you are going to have whatever is left. Meet the deadline with the correct info to have the best chance at the most money.

Thank you both. I will encourage my parents to speed things up.
