is there absolutely any merit to putting summer sports camps on your resume
(for instance, as opposed to taking classes at the local college?)

was is like a basketball camp?

no .

yeah it was a basketball camp

sure, why not? if it was really a good experience, write an essay about it.

it just makes me mad that i've done basically nothing productive (college-wise at least) during my summers because of basketball camp.

and btw, how much will having limited EC's:

(Basketball: 9-12
Cross country: 10-12
Honors Society:12
and two very small part time jobs)

hurt my chances at really selective colleges (i.e. duke, georgetown, emory)?

actually, it was a really bad experience. all my friends got kicked out for smoking pot... but actually... i could probably make an essay out of that:)

what kinda basketball camp was it?

overnight camp... 1 week.... but i've been doing it for the last five years (commitment, passion?)

are you planning on playing basketball in college, or are you good enough?

If you're recruitable, colleges will think that was a fine way to spend your summers. Especially if they were serious basketball camps, the kind where college coaches hang out and scout.

its a serious camp (actually one of the best in the country) and i'm a serious player... but theres absolutely no way i'm recruitable, especially at duke.

so is it still worth mentioning?

yeah, sure. if it's competitive. it wouldn't hurt, i think.

Well Duke is the very top, what about a divIII school? Certainly seems you love the sport and are dedicated.

To answer the question, it's a hard one. For those looking at future, you're putting a lot of eggs in one basket by spending all your summers doing this. Of course it's worth mentioning as opposed to letting them think you were tanning by the pool. But a great idea for others going for a sport is to split the time with community service, taking a couple of college classes or a job.

i'm borderline good enough to play at a D III school but i'm not planning on applying to any and although i love the sport would not be recruited by even D III schools...

but good advice suze... it probably is better to put something than to let them think i played video games all summer

also, how much does the lack of EC's (mentioned above) hurt my chances at these extremely competitive schools?

like does it slightly diminish my application?
or completely destroy it?

I don't know your list, but there are many D III schools I'd be really happy to get into--Williams, Swat, Amherst. What's wrong with those if you like Duke?

umm...Duke is Division I basketball, don't get it twisted

What are your school picks?
