My school's new administration implemented few new rules this week:

-Talking during a fire drill (or leaving one of your class's newly appointed task-force of, gasp, Squad Leaders) earns a student three days suspension and five days at an alternative school.
-Teachers must review questions missed on two-year old (from 8th grade?!) state mandated "test" with students - individually. Famous questions from last year's exam include "Which of the following is parabola?" with graphical answers.
-The kids have to know what each core concept on the "test" is numbered, and are - apparently - to be quizzed periodically on these assigned numbers by walk-in administrators. Why? I haven't the foggiest idea.
-"Character education" advisorys will take place for half an hour every monday.

Yeah, so this is essentially just my *****ing, though I figure most high schools (in the US, at least) have at least one odd rule of this sort. Your turn :)

we're not allowed to wear flip flops
which doesn't really sound too bad, considering that it's winter.

but, hi, i live in florida
and it was about 75-80 degrees on new year's eve
and everyone lives in sandals. i don't understand what the big deal is.

another dumb rule is if you miss 10 days of a semester and fail the semester exam, you fail the class. my friend alex had an A in trig, but failed the exam for a couple of reasons and so he failed the semester.

"another dumb rule is if you miss 10 days of a semester and fail the semester exam, you fail the class."

Actually, that one isn't really dumb.

"-Talking during a fire drill (or leaving one of your class's newly appointed task-force of, gasp, Squad Leaders) earns a student three days suspension and five days at an alternative school. "

Not really a rule, so much as something that's just plain stupid.
I'm a bit fixated on it - I'm in the bottom 50% of our class.

I'm sure there's lots of other stuff, I've made a petition against pretty much every single rule they've ever made. I just can't really remember any right now.

No holely jeans are allowed although I hate them anyways.

At a nearby school, MySpaces are not allowed. It's a Catholic school and you can't have a MySpace (I mean even at home, on your free time)

Juniors with cars can't leave campus for lunch, since it's only senior privelege. (I guess I'll be ok with it next year though)

And fromdistantstar, that 10 day rule is very fair. There's no way you should be missing that much school anyways. My school has the same policy and if you have extenuating circumstances, you can make an appeal.

Okay, that is really, really... OUT THERE. I don't think schools should be able to dictate what you do in your personal time... I mean, if it were on school premesis, yeah, but... at home?

I knew someone who got expelled (not from my school, from a diff state than me) for the content on their xanga...

We have no off campus lunches, and we can't order from the pizza place unless it's for like a party or something... we all do anyway, though, so you get kids rushing out of class with excuses like "i left my book in my locker" and coming back 20 minutes later, out of breath, with a pizza stuffed in their backpack.

no off campus lunches
after four unexcused tardies you need a doctor's note. why is this retarded? b/c u need a doctors note after 20 absences. 3 unexcused tardies = 1 unexcused absence. really doesn't make any sense.

also i think the 9 absences = fail is good. I think it's really lenient though. For us 3 unexcused absences = fail regardless of ur grade. U should not skip that much even for a semester.

We just have stupid uniform rules...um, no skirts 2 inches above the knee, only black, brown, or navy shoes...If you aren't a senior, you are constantly getting asked where you are going and what you are doing. You can't leave school unless you don't have any classes for the rest of the day, but you have to be a senior to do this. Uhh...that's about it. You also can't reject them from doing locker searches and backpack searches which they do frequently. They sometimes search your car too.

My boyfriend did get suspended though for not being allowed to go to the bathroom during study hall. What the heck is with catholic school and not letting you go pee when you have to.

we have uniforms too. They said they might take away bangs/fringes next year (on girls).

eating and drinking (water included) whilst walking to and from school gets you a detention. The school can easily detect students due to uniforms.

no hugging (boys+girls). where hugging is applied, the 1 meter rule must be applied- boy is 1 meter away from girl, vv. Which means you cant hug.

no cars to and from school. we must: get our parents to drive us or take the bus or walk

in my stupid school (its a public school and its not really that stupid lol but anyway...)... we cant wear sleeveless shirts! not even like regular thick strap whatevers. apparently shoulders turn people on?

yeah we have huge PDA rules. No hugging and if you hug it can't be longer than a second. Also, driving to school isn't recommended, and if you do drive, it should be minimal. I have an excuse to drive everyday since they don't supply a bus to my area.

And boys cant have bangs in their face, and boys cant have mohawks either. Boys get **** on at our school. lol

We've got that, too, on the basis that someone might be "sexually aroused" by, I don't know, knee or calve or something - however, they allow short skirts, which makes no sense.

We can have myspaces but if there's any content about the school they make an announcement telling us to stop, ex. "[football games, club meetings, etc] ...and for those of you taking the survey on myspace regarding whether or not we acutally read them...we do." Haha, that was fun.

No boys allowed on campus at any time unless they are taking classes.

Failure to work off a one-hour detention results in a three-hour Saturday detention, failure to work off a three-hour Saturday detention results in a one-day suspension.

Mix-and-match uniform is good on all days, but club or athletic team sweatshirts can be worn on Fridays only.

We can't wear bookbags in the building (they have to stay in the locker)

We can't leave campus (and we're seniors)

We can't wear big coats or large hoodies!!!

all males have to tuck in shirts and wear belts

we can't leave the commons area during lunch

we can't even STAND UP during lunch...we must remain seated

parking violations result in your car getting towed ($75 to get it back) plus a $100 fine that goes to the school...if you don't pay it you don't graduate...

you have to wait in a huuuuge line to get a tardy admit to class...making you miss even MORE class time

yeah i hate that tardy admit thing!
classes start at 8:00 but sometimes when i get to school at 8:00:01 i have to wait for a late pass and it takes 10-15 minutes! agh
