Stupidest reason child won't look at a college

Maybe DD will reconsider MSU (she thought that the students at the James Madison College there were too nerdy) [Michigan State to Offer Class on Zombie Apocalypse Survival - Fastweb](http://www.fastweb.com/student-life/articles/3487-michigan-state-to-offer-class-on-zombie-apocalypse-survival?from_session=true%3Futm_source%3Dnlet&utm_content=fw_c1_20120314)

Refuse to apply to any school with gold/red or yellow/red as colors; reminds me of ketchup and mustard. My two least favorite things!

We looked at Duquesne in Pgh. I thought this might be a good match because it is a medium size school and my daughter was unsure if she wanted big or little. I thought that like Goldilocks, she might find this just right. Also they offered a program that I thought might be a great fit for her. She nixed it within minutes because of the “disturbing” crucifix on campus. She just couldn’t look at that every day.

My D has the same issue with Brown.

My D flat out refused to consider Tufts because the mascot (an elephant) is named “Jumbo” and teams are known as Jumbos. She just wouldn’t get past that.

^^ can’t say that I blame her

“The girls aren’t pretty enough.”

Not a “reason I won’t consider” a college. But when I visited Western Carolina, I was legitimately offended that my name tag said “Winston Salem,” without the NECESSARY dash. It may have reduced my perception of the school. A lot.

I pretty much automatically eliminated every school east of Raleigh (keep in mind, I stayed in-state) by determining that I couldn’t possibly spend 4 years being anywhere where the climate is warmer than it is here.

I eliminated Lenoir-Rhyne as a choice as a Theatre student because I disliked the appearance and acoustics of their theatre. Also, they had a set on stage for a show and it wasn’t professional-looking at all.

My “reasons” not to even bother with a college are:

If I cannot find the undergraduate Admissions/Prospective Students page under a minute, then that’s the last time I’ll be looking at that college.

If I can’t find the Net Price Calculator relatively easily, then I’m not going to continue looking.

This is kind of funny. All the people that disregarded a certain school because of minor details remind me of Sheldon Cooper. Maybe the should establish a University whose mascot is Sheldon and their motto being “bazinga”. Lol that would be pretty neat.

swizzle13–I hate messy websites. I agree, for an institution of higher learning, the website should be easily navigated. I was looking at one website for a University Institute of Technology and I couldn’t find a thing on there other then the web photo on the front page proclaiming how wonderful their Computer Science program was :D…pay a student $500 to fix your website then.

My D15 is still at the very beginning of the college selection process - we’re just tossing around names at this point. But already stupidity has shown its face. She wants to get away from home and out of PA. Fine. But after rejecting Bloomsburg because “it’s too close” (3 hours away) she said she might like Univ of Delaware. UDel is one hour away. I guess it’s in another state, so that’s okay? (shaking head …)

LMAO SansSerif - Yes, that would have me shaking my head too.

For some reason, out of state schools are just better than instate schools-no matter where you live :D.

When I was picking an UG school, I applied and was accepted to Purdue but refused to ever attend there on the basis that all of my extended family members went there and it constantly smelled awful. I also hated my alma mater the first time I visited in February…it was rainy and slushy and cold. After attending, I learned IU is most gorgeous when it snows

I proudly graduated from UG and grad school at IU :)

Oh my God! Rant time! I think that Ohio State has THE worst University website I’ve ever seen. It’s not befitting an institution of their caliber at all. It’s full of clutter and it’s difficult for a potential student to get to the important information. ([Welcome to Ohio State - The Ohio State University](http://www.osu.edu)) I’m a big fan of Chapel Hill’s, very tidy. ([Home | The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill](http://www.unc.edu))

Won’t look at USC bc of their name…the gamecocks…

SteveMA - Maybe OOS is better … problem is, it’s also way more expensive!!! (Another concept D15 is so far refusing to comprehend …)

Reminds me of when I pointed out to a friend of mine that when she was choosing between USC or Furman University (FU), she was going to be able to buy a shirt that’s inappropriate to wear in public either way.

SansSerif, my kids had no interest in Stonehill, which is 40 minutes from our house. But my son was interested in Providence, also 40 minutes away. The difference? It’s across a state line in RI. Also it’s in an urban area, while Stonehill is an a suburban town just like ours. So Providence feels more different, which may translate to “further.”

eg1995 - I couldn’t walk around with '***** on my clothes either. But maybe that’s because I have a lot of relatives who went to Clemson… :p

EDIT - wow, CC bleeped out the short version of Gamecocks. For a conservative southern state, you’d think SC would have a problem with a mascot that needs to be bleeped.
