Styes

Has anyone dealt with really bad styes (on the eye) before? I have only had one before and the whole hot compress thing worked really well and it was really just annoying more than anything. I started to feel the itch of one coming on Saturday morning and by Saturday night I had a red spot beneath my eye and a tiny white spot on the lash line (this is located on the lower lid, close to the tear duct) On Sunday Morning, it literally looked like someone punched me in the eye, really red and bruised underneath and all that fun stuff. I see the eye doctor today at 2:00 but the nurse asked me if I could feel the stye and I said yes, and I judged that it was larger than a skittle but smaller than a grape. She said at that size he might lance it and drain it which complete freaks me out. But the pain is really bad and my vision is affected by the pressure. Any thoughts?

You will probably get a prescription for an eye ointment and that should have the swelling down in a day. Keep the medicine and apply next time you get a inkling it is coming and you should not have such a big reaction. Other than that you will probably have to keep the compresses till you see the doctor. I believe there is an OTC medicine for styes but this might be some other eye infection.

My brother had to have one drained. They flipped his eyelid inside out, cut it open and drained it. Did well after that.

I had an ongoing problem with styes (actually chalazions but they are similar) and if a warm compress doesn’t work, along with antibiotic (erythromycin) I have had to have them surgically removed if they failed to drain on their own.

Anytime I feel anything scratching my eye I apply the antibiotic immediately.

I haven’t had nearly as much of a problem since I stopped using any make-up on my lower lid and my eye doctor also gave me special wipes to use to clean my lids.

The surgery or draining is really no big deal.

Don’t delay the draining just because it sounds gross. It will actually help a lot. Good luck to you.

This actually works!
