In my high school they gave everyone Lenovo Thinkpad Yogas this year. We’ve been using OneNote to take notes in all our classes and the computer comes with a stylus, which I’ve found very handy. I usually type out my notes, but its helpful to draw things out, or for doing math problems.
Now my question is for those of you in college, do you find yourself taking notes on the computer or by hand? Are there some professors that won’t let you use your laptop for notes?
Also, are all touch-screen laptops compatible with a passive stylus?
Writing your notes by hand benefits the most for learning the material. So I would say writing out the notes especially if you’re in a STEM program because you will have alot of long notes with equations and such. A company called SyncNote is creating a electronic notebook which would benefit alot for people who write long extensive notes. Their website is “mysyncnote.com” if you want to check it out.
Why not get the best of both. I personally use a USB graphics tablet for my notes. Has the memory benefits and fine control of a pen, but everything’s computerized. Wacom is the leading brand, but their tablets are really overpriced, unless you have a chronic fear of AAA batteries, or really, really need an eraser nub. You can get a cheap tablet from monoprice around the size of a a piece of notebook paper for ~$50. Plus its damned useful if you get into animation or digital art, and helps suppress my early symptoms of carpel tunnel.
Take notes however you want.
Some students don’t allow laptops, but that is generally the exception, rather than the rule.
