SU vs GW

I just got accepted off the GW waitlist and as exciting as that was it has completely scrambled my decision making process. So right now I have a choice between the Syracuse University and George Washington finance programs. Now I know most of the details about the difference atmospheres, i.e. SU is much cooler while GW is a relatively small campus vs Syracuse which is just huge etc....

But in terms of finance programs which school comes on top? And also I believe internships at GW should be better than in upstate New-York? Finally does the finance program at GW hold more or less prestige than the one at at SU?

Once again thanks and any advice would be much appreciated at this moment due to the time constraints imposed on me for making the decision.

GWU is a better and more competitive school. What were your stats?

I've been coming to the same conclusion bit by bit, but I'm still looking for more advice.

And here are my stats:

International Student

SAT I avg 1300 (Math (650) + Reading(650)

current GPA 3.8 (weighted) had an abysmal freshman / sophmore years with an avg GPA of 2.5 (personnel reasons to blame and I have written an explanation letter).

Enrolled in the full IB program with,

Hi Falk!

I'm Zahra and I also got into both SU and GW. For me the main factor was that GW was pretty much meeting 100% of my financial need wheras SU was giving me $18000, which wasn't enough. But otherwise, Im really glad I chose GW because:

a.) The oppurtunities are amazing. Yeah ok the campus isn't as beautiful as SU and it might not have the sports thing going but in the end, its about getting the chance to make your mark and GW gives you that chance.

b.) Im not sure about the finance programes in either uni but I know that it'll probably be the same as both places because they're ranked close togethor.

c.) As I understand it, you live in Kuwait. Well I live in Saudi and I'd much rather go to a place with the 4 seasons rather than jump into a place with freezing cold temperatures all year round, which Im not used to.

d.)GW's a smaller school so that you get more one on one time with the teachers. SU has so many majors that there is a higher chance that you'll get distracted and end up losing focus on your intended major.

e.) D.C.'s probably much more eventful and exciting than Syracuse and you'll get a lot of internship chances, possibly in the IMF if you work really hard.

I think you should really go for GW...I think its the better place, especially for someone like you whose into internationalism and stuff coz GW is probably one of the most diverse unis in the US.

Hope this helped and made your decision easier.

Thanks for the info Zahra and Im sorry but Im not from Kuwait. I'm French and I managed to intern in Kuwait petrol-chemical ministry thanks to a kuwaiti friend of mine. But yes I'm very familiar with the region and know it well from my travels.

Well thank you for listing all the pros of GWU and their all well taken.
And yes I am leaning more and more towards choosing GWU now.

:D Whoops...That was stupid considering that it says 'Paris, France' under your 'Location.'

I'm a freshman at SU right now, and I'm trying to transfer to GWU ... SU is kinda like a bubble. GWU is in a city, so way better internships and things to do I guess... I dunno. I don't want to direct your choice away from SU but let me know if you have any questions.
