Recently I took subject tests in Literature, Math 1, and Spanish. I scored a 700, 670, and 630, respectively. Previously I had taken U.S. History and scored 800. Overall, I have good test scores with a 35 on the ACT and 5 on APUSH, the only AP test for which I’ve received a score (I’m waiting on both IB and AP scores from May 2016).
Is a 700 going to hurt my admissions chances? Should I retake subject tests in October? Most schools I’m looking at either require or recommend submitting two, although one school does require three. I’m looking at schools ranging from Brown to Georgetown to Northwestern to Wellesley.
Brown and Wellesley accept the ACT in lieu of both the SAT and subject tests. Thus, you could go with just your high ACT for either of those. Northwestern and Georgetown recommend subject tests and for Georgetown it is three (it does not require subject tests, although it phrases the recommendation as a very strong recommendation). Northwestern allows you to submit whichever tests you want to submit, and you would probably OK sending all the ones you have now although you might choose to just send the 700 and 800. Georgetown is your only one where another SAT in the 700s may be important, inlcuidng because the applicant pool will likely have a large number with three high subject test scores. Be aware that Georgetown requires you to provide all test scores you have, SAT, ACT, and subject tests.
